ANTIOXIDANTS FOR ANTI-AGING, WEIGHT LOSS AND FAT CONTROL..EPIDEMIC OF HEART FAILURE?? ...IT ENDS HERE!

<< Previous Page -Mechanism of Insulin and Leptin Resistance

In view of the fact that probably less than 25% of the population actually obtain the nurtients they need from their diet, a good multiple vitamin is a must. Try as we may, depleted soil conditions, extreme shipping conditions, picking produce before its ripened, over-processing of food, all act to detract from nutrient density in our diet.

Vitamins and minerals act as co-factors and catalysts in our body's biochemistry..enabling optimal function and believe me, the "RDA's suggested by our governments are simply far too low to compensate for today's food quality.

The Multigenics Intensive Care without Iron-A Great Daily Intake Vitamin is the one I recommend for a total coverage of cellular function. I avoid iron as it causes a lot of free radical formation and oxidation of your cell membranes in particular. The one with iron can be ordered by calling us at 1-877-402-5450, for those with low iron problems.

Free radicals form in any metabolic process. They are particularly linked to aging, cancer formation and aberrent pathways in the body. In nature, the formation of free radicals is not unusual..but the processes rely on the antioxidants to be obtained from your diet. The problem is..as stated above..they no longer exist in the quantities we need, especially considering the toxic environment we live in.

I recommend two excellent products - Mitochondrial Resuscitate (Only available in the US) and Network Synergy Antioxidant Defense Support..

Vitamin C is a particularly good antioxidant when considering cardiovascular disease. It is very effective in combating the free radical damage to the inside of the arteries. Vitamin C, however is sensitive to insulin for absorption into our cells..so its absorption is crippled when insulin desensitivity exists...and so partially explains why we see diabetic patients getting more infections.

Ultra Potent Vitamin C 1000 is by far one of the best I have ever used in my practise.

Vitamin E is particuarly good at protecting the lipid or fat content of your body. That would most importantly include the cell membrances (made of phospho-lipids) and nerve tissues. It also enhances the response of the receptors on the membranes and nerve wrappings to be more aware of insulin and leptin.

Total E is the Vitamin E of choice.

R+ Alpha Lipoic Acid..a newer, more recently studied form of alpha lipoic acid. ALA itself has been recognized for some time especially in Europe to be very effective for diabetics. It improves insulin sensitivity so helps to decrease blood sugar. It has also proved itself to be useful for the "numbness and tingling" often experienced in the hands and feet of diabetics.

ALA is both water and fat soluble, making it a very efficient antioxidant. It biochemically supports Vitamins C and E..sparing them to do more work.

When sugars attach themselves to proteins, its a process called glycation. It happens with people who have high sugars in their blood (diabetics) and happens more often with aging..in fact is a cause of some the cellular and biochemical changes and inefficiencies of aging ..(wrinkling, organ deterioration, muscle atrophy, nerve damage, etc.) R+ ALA and its close friend in this cause, Benfotiamine are the stars in counteracting these cellular changes for the better

R+ ALA is also very helpful with heavy metal detox..ie mercury from dental amalgams and vaccines.

There are a specific group of the B vitamin family and their cofactors required for proper conversion of the amino acid methionine to the very used and needed amino acid, cysteine. When these are not present in high enough quantities, the intermediate amino acid homocysteine elevates, resulting in a direct increase in cholesterol production.

The B cofactors to improve this metabolism are B6, B12, Folic Acid (in the L-5 methyl-tetrahydrofolate form (most clinically active)), trimethylglycine, zinc, choline and intrinsic factor for absorption.

Vessel Care is the only combination supplying all of these nutrients.

Magnesium is a critical mineral for cardio vascular health (as we are concerned with here)..but also needed for cellular replication, energy production, protein production and the relaxation of smooth muscles..leading to a lowering of blood pressure.

The best magnesium is Cardo-Mag. This is not just any chelated mineral to assist in absorption. Cario-Mag is Magnesium Orotate and this combination not only takes advantage of magnesium as a heart-health supplement in its own right: the magnesium in Magnesium Orotate is a key cofactor for the very enzyme that uses orotate to biosynthesize the RNA precursors (pyrimidine nucleotides) through which orotate strengthens and restores heart cells under stress.

Zinc is used in a very large number of enzyme reactions..from protein metabolism, energy production, immune regulation, gene expression and modifying, production of insulin by the beta cells of the pancreas, and glucose usage by your cells. Its pretty easy then, to see how it applies to your health for anti-aging, glucose control, weight loss and cardiovascular wellness.

How to Lower Blood Sugar.........

Chromium Picolinate has been used extensively for diabetics and hypoglycemics to sensitize cells to insulin. It also helps curb appetite and in so doing assists in weight loss and re-shaping muscle mass. It is used by your body to make "glucose tolerance factor" which can assist insulin in attaching to its receptors.

Vanadium as vanadyl sulfate stimulates the insulin receptors therefore also enhancing insulin sensitivity and glucose uptake.

Zinc, Chromium and Vanadyl Sulfate can be found in Endurabolic-Alternative Blood Sugar Control , together with the B1, B2 and B3 and magnesium they need to fully address the insulin sensitivity and glucose uptake problems found in insulin and leptin insensitive people.

Fenugreek Plus-Lower Blood Sugar Fast - Fenugreek Plus features concentrates of fenugreek, gymnema, and bitter gourd, three highly valued herbs that support blood glucose homeostasis.

Helps to support healthy blood sugar levels when used as part of a healthy diet by modulating intestinal glucose uptake.

Gymnema Sylvestre ..an Aryuvedic herb which has been shown to lower insulin requirements in Type 1 Diabetecs (childhood, usually). When put on the tongue it blocks the perception of sweet and so helps with cravings. A good quality tincture such as this from St. Francis can actually stimulate and help regenerate the beta cells of the pancreas..where insulin is made in your body. How to Lower Blood Sugar

Omega 3 Fatty Acids..these are very difficult to obtain from diet unless you live in the extreme north and eat whale and seal as these are only found in cold water fish and marine mammals and some in flax..(but this is not a great source).. Ideally you should have a ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 of 1:1 and yet most people are more like 25:1 or more...

The many cardiovascular benefits include: decreasing inflammation and smoothing arrythmias, helps to protect the lining cells of the blood vessels, increases their elasticity and prevents clots (NattoKinase is also wonderful for clot prevention)

They also improve hormone sensitivities, especially insulin and leptin. It helps bring triglycerides down and stokes the buring of fat.

DHA in particular nourishes the brain so is very helpful in memory loss (Alzheimer's)or for autistic and ADHD children.

Coenzyme Q 10 - 100 mg. Most of your energy that feeds our cells is produced in the mitochondria. This includes the burning of fat and glucose and then packaging the energy from that into little packets called ATP (adenosine triphosphate). A major player in this is CoQ10. It therefore increases energy production but it also acts as a powerful antioxidant, protecting the rest of the cell's contents from oxidation.

Important note:Statin drugs (Lipitor, Crestor, Mevacor, Zocor, etc) actually lower your cells' levels of CoQ10 and this nutrient is ESSENTIAL for heart health..lack of it can lead to congestive heart failure!

A form of Co-Q10 called ubiquinone is found in all cell membranes where it plays a role in maintaining membrane integrity so critical to nerve conduction and muscle integrity. Co-Q10 is also vital to the formation of elastin and collagen. Side effects of Co-Q10 deficiency include muscle wasting leading to weakness and severe back pain, heart failure (the heart is a muscle!), neuropathy and inflammation of the tendons and ligaments, often leading to rupture.

CoQ10 deficiency has also been associated with greater incidence of Parkinson's Disease, cancer, Huntington's Chorea, migranes, asthma, fibromyalgia, periodontal disease and cirrhosis of the liver.

Recommended: At least 100 mg per day

L-Carnitine - This critical amino acid transports fatty acids into the mitochondria to be burnt for energy. The heart in particular loves carnitine for this as the cells of the heart, prefer to burn fats.

It is known for lowering trigylcerides and cholesterol because of this.

One form is acetyl-L-carnitine which actually protects mitochondrial membranes by producing a substance called cardiolipin.

In Canada, its very difficult to obtain L-carnitine. I use Ortho-Mind-A Great Memory Enhancement Supplement which has 1,500 mg of acetyl-L-carnitine in its daily dose. Its also loaded with anti-aging, mind "brightening" nutrients!

L-Arginine is very important to those who have cardian problems, particularly plaque in the arteries. It is a precursor (starting molecule) for nitric oxide (NO) which dilates the arteries, hence lowering blood pressure. "Clogged" arteries don't produce this well, as its made in the cells of the lining of arteries, which of course are covered with plaque. This further increases plaquing and so a vicious circle is set up.

Taking arginine increases your body's production of NO, a lowering of blood pressure and decreased atherosclerosis.

For US patients we use Arginine Plus and in Canada, Arginine from AOR
