Children's Corner:

Every once in a while, I list in one of my newsletters some of the things going on over at Mothering Magazine and their wonderful site.

This journal and its incredible content was my "lifeline" when I had my two children and in their early years of life. Like minded people, birthing and raising children in the most natural of ways..it was nectar to the gods to have these articles and helpful insightful, shared experiences to read in this incredibly rushed frenetic world.

Acute Cold/Flu Homeopathics:

I'm being asked often, lately about homeopathic remedies for cold, coughs, etc...and I suppose the time is right.

Let's list a few of the best ones to have on hand:

If you are just starting something..a little scratch at the back of the throat..not really ill yet..or you see your child slow down, act a little listless but not quite "sick" then Ferrum Phos 30C is a remedy which when taken one dose every 15 to 20 minutes for four doses..can often abort the whole cold.

For that very sore throat or sharp pains in the lungs on breathing that you experience with a chest cold..Bryonia works very well.

For those aches and pains felt with cold and flu..Eupatorium is amazing.

That overall dull, achy, body feels like lead feeling...think of Gelsemium

For fever..Belladonna is great..particularly when the patient is red in the face, really hot and feels worse by moving. They often have "pounding" symptoms..i.e. headache.

For the tickling cough particularly at night..that wakes you up..Rumex Crispus

Or for the coughs that kids get...that seem to go on forever..Drosera

All of these can be taken in a gentle way..in a 30C...give a dose every 15 minutes for four doses and then watch. If they get a little better, then reduce the dosing to twice per day.

At this time of year..or soon..there seems to be a push on for pet vaccinations before they go and spend a lot of time outdoors again.

I think this article by Dr. Larry Siegler, a vet of some 20 years says it all. Pets in general are over-vaccinated, are too young when they start and personally I am convinced the number given at any one time is extremely harmful to them. Here is an item I often suggest for pet owners, even though their pets may be very healthy. It can be used as a preventive..but in particular, if you are going to vaccinate, I'd have them on this for at least a week before the vaccines are to take place.

Study: Chlorinated water found to increase risk of bladder cancer

For those of you who spend a lot of time in chlorinated pools, and this is the time of year where people are away in the south...doing just that....this article needs your attention.

I have always worried about the chlorination in swimming pools..particularly with children because of their smaller body weight....any toxins has more negative effects on smaller beings.
