On another note..Dr. Tom has given me permission to share this wonderful story with you... Vitamin C, Pulmonary Embolism, and Cali, Colombia As important as medicine has always been to me, I fairly suddenly decided that I needed to do more traveling, always a desire that I had neglected. My health is excellent, but at the age of 53 I also realized that I was not going to live forever, and my state of good health in the future, as with everyone else on this planet, could never be assured or guaranteed for any period of time. My kind friends might say that I was undergoing a mid-life crisis, while my less loving associates would surely label it a post-mid-life crisis. My first destination was Colombia, South America. More specifically, Cali, Colombia. Yes, that's right, Cali. The same city that is known primarily in the United States as the number one city in the world for kidnapping gringos for profit and/or fun. Also, the same city that has cocaine literally sustaining it economically while at the same time destroying its very essence. There were many reasons I chose this destination, but they are not really pertinent to this newsletter. Suffice it to say that every member of my immediate family, as well as numerous close friends, exhorted me to control my seeming sudden psychosis and go elsewhere or stay at home. I ignored all of these requests as gently and firmly as I could, agreeing to be fully appreciative of whatever prayers and novenas they chose to say on behalf of my welfare and safety. Colombia is truly a physically beautiful country, populated by persons possessed with predominantly good hearts and souls. I must haven taken hundreds of cab rides, and I never encountered one cabbie who wanted to negotiate for extra money. To the contrary, they followed strictly their meters. On more than one occasion, a cab driver called me back to the cab to give me a few hundred pesos (ten to fifteen cents) that I did not realize was owed to me. However, as advertised, it is not really very safe, and an outsider in Cali has to be steered to a limited number of locations where security is maintained at all times by uniformed guards casually strolling their beats with machine guns in hand. While this was disconcerting at first, it later proved to be much more a comforting than a horrifying sight. It was actually on my fourth (yes, fourth) visit to Cali that my emotions were ambushed as they have never been before. My office manager had been traveling with me on all of these visits as well, and we had decided on an earlier visit to try to establish a clinic in Cali that could easily administer intravenous vitamin C for a wide range of conditions. As a result, we had gradually been bringing with us small amounts of vitamin C powder that simply was not available there. We wanted to be equipped to treat ourselves as well as others. Then the unpredictable hit......

Alfalfa: This plant is highly under-rated as a tonic, an aid for building strong bones and teeth..and its vitamin/mineral content....particularly calcium, magnesium and manganese, phosphorus and potassium. The roots of alfalfa grow down as far as 125 feet, making it able to reach vital minerals, far beyond the reach of other vegetation. It promotes strong bones and rebuilds decaed teeth. It is also useful for lumbago, rheumatism, dyspepsia (indigestion), backache, chronic ulcer, infections of the sinus, ear nose and throat. Rich in chlorophyll, it stimulates growth of supportive connective tissue and is useful for collagen disease, and therefore arthritis, etc. Horsetail: High in silicea, horsetail acts as a remineraliser and anti-rheumatic. It assists in preserving the elasticity of connective tissue and controls the absorption of calcium. Its cleasing properties rapidly removes urates, uric acid (gout) and cellulites from the system. Tumeric: Has many, many wonderful uses...including anti-inflammatory for arthritis and particularly rheumatoid arthritis, which responds to very few things. As an added bonus, though, Tumeric is one of the best antioxidants, anti-cancer and cholesterol lowering herbs.
CAT URINARY This formula is as it says for clear healthy functioning urinary tracts, particularly in cats. Some of the leading herbs are: Bearberry: More commonly this herb is called Uva Ursi. Its known for its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and astringent effects in the genitourninary tract. It has been traditionally used in diseases of the bladder and kidneys, strengthening and imparting tone to the urinary passages and alleviating inflammation of the urinary tract. Couch Grass: Also called "dog grass" it is said this is the grass a dog will instinctinvely go when it is ill. A soothing diuretic for inflammation of the urinary tract. It is also a uric acid solvent, antiseptic for the urinary tract, emollient and nutritive. Used for cystitis, nephritis, urethritis, painful and incontinent urination, renal colic, kidney stone, gravel, gout, backache, even rheumatism and chronic skin lesions. Celery Seed: Alkalizes the blood and urine and is a urinary antiseptic, diuretic, antispasmodic, anti-gout, anti-inflammatory and extremely good in lowering blood pressure. In fact, with our human patients, I have had those with high blood pressure eat four stalks of celery per day with a very positive effect on lowering blood pressure.
CLARITY
Salvia Officinalis: Used in this formula as it is a circulatory stimulant particularly for the brain. It has application for depression, poor memory and mental confusion. Avena Sativa: Also called Oats or Oatstraw..is a wonderful "Brain Tonic". Also helps in depression, and has a nutritive action on the brain and nervous system. Helpful also for any type of nervous tension, anxiety and even tremour. Ginkgo Biloba: Excellent circulatory stiumulant, increases blood brain flow. VACCINATIONS ARE NOT MERCURY FREE!! PRESS
RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Vaccines Are Not Mercury Free After much public controversy surrounding the mercury content of childhood vaccinations, Health Advocacy in the Public Interest (HAPI) raised $500 to have four vaccines tested for heavy metal content. The vials were sent to Doctor's Data, an independent lab which specializes in heavy metal testing. Many manufacturers voluntarily began producing supposed "mercury free" vaccines in 1999. Some product inserts currently claim that a "trace" amount of mercury still exists in the final product but that the amount has been greatly reduced. Others claim to be producing completely mercury free products. During an investigation into the mercury issue, HAPI learned that Thimerosal, a 50% mercury compound, is still being used to produce most vaccines and that the manufacturers are simply "filtering it out" of the final product. However, according to Boyd Haley, PhD, Chemistry Department Chair, University of Kentucky, mercury binds to the antigenic protein in the vaccine and cannot be completely, 100% filtered out. All four vaccine vials tested contained mercury despite manufacturer claims that two of the vials were completely mercury free. All four vials also contained aluminum, one nine times more than the other three, which tremendously enhances the toxicity of mercury causing neuronal death in the brain. The mercury content of routine childhood vaccinations has been linked to the current autism epidemic as well as numerous other neurological disorders affecting children today. Currently, one in six children are affected in some way and one in 250 children are diagnosed as autistic compared to one in 10,000 prior to mercury containing vaccines. It is the position of Dr. Haley as well as HAPI that if mercury can be detected in any vaccine using standard instrumentation, the content should be disclosed in the product insert and manufacturers should not be allowed to call the product "mercury free". Executive Director of HAPI, Dawn Winkler, met with FDA officials in Silver Spring, Maryland on July 27, 2004 to discuss blatant mislabeling and misrepresentation of ingredients in vaccinations which are licensed by the FDA. Clearly, more testing is needed. The FDA has the ability and authority to take on the necessary testing, however, at present, this task sadly appears to be up to the public. HAPI will be attempting to raise more funds to test more vaccines in an effort to pressure the FDA to crack down on manufacturers to label their products correctly.
