A Fragrant Pharmacy

As scientists reveal that sage could help Alzheimer's, Monique Simmonds reports on the medicine cabinet in your garden

From the Guardian in Britain:

Plants have played a key role in providing us with medicines for centuries, yet in the latter half of the 20th century, synthetic chemists have provided many of our new drugs. In Britain plant-based remedies have been largely ignored, especially since 1945 and the introduction of the NHS, which has traditionally actively discouraged herbal remedies. Some sections of the medical profession still consider plants as yesterday's medicines, but others are increasingly open-minded and are actively using advances in molecular biology and chemistry to re-evaluate the role plants could play in the health of people in the 21st century.

Reports last week that researchers are studying the use of sage in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease illustrates some of that new interest in plants. Scientists at the universities of Newcastle and Northumbria discovered that people taking sage oil extract showed a marked improvement in their memory  Click  Here for the rest of the report.

This is a wonderful, thought provoking piece and kudos to them for this fine work!

DID YOU KNOW???

Many of the "low-fat" peanut butters have the same calories as the higher fat or regular ones.  The manufacturers simply add more sweetners to make up for lost taste.  READ LABELS!!

Hey..great use for those old ketchup bottles!....Clean them out and use them for your oils.  The nozzle allows you to pour very specifically...mark the bottles with a permanent marker..and don't forget an opened capsule or two of good quality Vitamin E to help prevent oxidation of the oils (going rancid).

Flu Shot Season - Think twice before you shoot!.

According to Hugh Fudenberg, MD, the world's leading immunogeneticist and 13th most quoted biologist of our times (nearly 850 papers in peer review journals), if an individual has had five consecutive flu shots his/her chances of getting Alzheimer's Disease is ten times higher than if they had one, two or no shots.

Dr. Fudenberg was asked why this was so and he said it was due to the mercury and aluminum that is in every flu shot (and some childhood shots). The gradual mercury and aluminum buildup in the brain causes cognitive dysfunction. Is that why Alzheimer's is expected to quadruple? Notes: Recorded from Dr. Fudenberg's speech at the NVIC International Vaccine Conference, Arlington, VA September, 1997. Quoted with permission.

Alzheimer's to quadruple statement is from John's Hopkins Newsletter Nov 1998. Dr. Fudenberg's web address is www.nitrf.org. Interesting info on treating autism on the site.

Randall Neustaedter OMD author of The Vaccine Guide says this: "The flu vaccine gets the most-useless-vaccine-of-all-time award. Now the CDC is recommending the vaccine for children under two years old and all adults over 50. Don't fall for it!"

Flu Facts

Flu vaccine manufacturers are notoriously inaccurate at predicting the
appropriate viruses to use in an individual year's vaccine, rendering
the vaccine ineffective.

* Flu vaccine is relatively ineffective in those patients most at risk
of flu complications.

* The vaccine has caused GBS (Guillian-Barre Syndrome) in recipients during several different flu seasons.

* Those most at risk of flu complications probably share a higher risk
of adverse reactions to the flu vaccine as well.

Fluzone is the new flu vaccine for babies (recommended 6 months to 23
months). You can get it as a 0.25 mL prefilled syringe (for pediatric
use) and as a 0.5 mL prefilled syringe. Fluzone contains mercury: 25
µg mercury/0.5 mL dose. It also has chicken embryos and formaldehyde
and Sucrose, Sodium phosphate, Sodium Chloride, Mercury, Gelatin,
Polyethylene Glycol p-Isooctylphenyl Ether, Hemaggluttinin
.

Dr. Deb:

And you are supposed to be happy giving this to a infant or child???? Are they NUTS!!??? Flu Prevention can be very successfully done homeopathically.

DID YOU KNOW?????

"25 years with your head in a dirty oven?"  Well just know you don't have to clean with toxic products.  Just 2 tablespoons of baking soda or TSP (trisodium phosphate) in a gallon of warm water and a fine steel wool pad (0000) will do the trick!  For REALLY baked on stains, use a pumice stone.

Iridescent ham or cold cuts?  Not that I recommend these..at all.  But people have asked me if the "iridescent colour"..which is kind of greenish is a sign of spoilage.  Well actually..no, its not.  It is a sign of exposure to oxygen..not being kept sealed well and its a product of nitrite modification of the iron content in the meat.  And I am NOT a fan of nitrites in any form..but just to let you know what is happening.

THE INCREDIBLE HEALTH BENEFITS OF BUFFALO
(BISON) MEAT!!

The following was excerpted from:

www.woodennickelbuffalo.com

Finally, a "red" meat that is good for you and GOOD tasting.  Bison bulls weigh 1,500-2,000 pounds at maturity of 6-8 years old. They stand up to 6 feet high at the hump and measure up to 9 feet long from nose to tail. Females are smaller, weighing 900-1,200 pounds, stand 5 feet high and measure 6 feet from nose to tail.

Buffalo (Bison) are beautiful & amazing animals. They live 25-40 years & will breed their entire life. They can adapt to any climate on earth. Buffalo are in every state (including Alaska and Hawaii) and in several provinces of Canada. When Columbus landed in America in 1492, 30-60 million buffalo roamed North America. In the late 1800's, the Buffalo herds had dwindled to approximately 1,000.

Bison Meat is a good source of various minerals essential to wellbeing and good health. Bison Meat is nutrient dense because of the proportion of protein, fat, minerals, and vitamins compared to its caloric value. It is lower in sodium, higher in iron, & moderate in zinc compared to other domestic meats.

Buffalo is ideal for those on a low fat, low cholesterol diet. There is a well-established link between heart disease. fat intake, and cholesterol level. Lowering your fat and cholesterol will help reduce the risk of coronary artery disease. Buffalo is the perfect alternative to other red meats.

The American Heart Association studies indicate that over 70 million Americans (that is 1 in 4) have some form of heart or cardiovascular disease. 1.5 million Americans will suffer a heart attack this year. Of those, 500,000 will die. Cardiovascular disease is the #1 cause of death in the U.S. today. Buffalo Meat is Red Meat that CAN BE EATEN by those who have been told to avoid red meats altogether. If you are among those who must have a good, juicy steak, Buffalo/Bison Meat is your dietary salvation!
