BENFOTIAMIN
Benfotiamin is an allithiamin, a naturally-occurring
lipophilic form of thiamin (vitamin B1). Benfotiamin's superior ability
to penetrate cell membranes overcomes the absorption hurdles which limit
the effects of conventional thiamin supplements and of preformed thiamin
pyrophosphate (TPP). Its bioavailability is also superior to that of
other allithiamines. Benfotiamin is a powerful "late-phase" inhibitor of
Advanced Glycation Endproduct (AGE) formation, acting through several
mechanisms to reduce the irreversible nonenzymatic modification of the
structure and function of bodily proteins by sugars. Unlike most
“anti-AGE” supplements, Benfotiamin has been proven to block AGE
formation in controlled human and animal studies, and not just a test
tube, resulting in documented maintenance of the structure and function
of retinal, nervous, kidney, and other tissues.
